Fire Blast is the easier to use option but doesn't fully strip armor which can be a problem against high level enemies. Shuriken requires an augment and can only hit a few enemies at a time. Pillage and Terrify are good options with external Strength bonuses which bring them high enough to fully strip armor.
Fire blast is nice to have as a general purpose utility ability, especially if you haven't unlocked a whole lot of helminth abilities, but I have yet to encounter a build which feels completed by the addition of fire blast.
