To set the timing on that engine, have the s/plugs out, and have the throttle at full, set that timer base under the flywheel tight against the rubber stop on the end of the full spark timer advance stop screw (wire it against that stop if necessary). Rig a spark tester and have the gap set to 7/16". Hook up the timing light to the #1 plug wire.and a washer. There is a slot such that when the screw is losened you can advance the initial timing for idle moving the screw in the slot to the right or front of motor which increases the idle.Do not adjust the lever which is pushed by the. roller lever-this is max timing and should only be adjusted by an OMC dealer.

It may be set with a timing light. Give full throttle, remove all spark plugs and hook up a spark tester or keep plugs ...
