I try to do nail care once a week. That entails removing old polish, then removing hangnails, and dead skin. I’ll push back my cuticles before painting on a nail hardener and then I’ll paint a new color over it. After it’s all dry, I’ll use a cuticle oil then hand lotion. Gel or acrylic, the most important thing is having them done and removed by a reputable technician with experience. Learning to do your own gels with soak-off polish is also a good alternative if you are into DIY, but it requires learning to remove the product safely anyway. Multiple thin coats is better than less thick coats for lasting ime. 1-2 layers of top coat (one glitter smoothing + one regular for textured polish) No more than two of the color should be needed. I want to like Essie polish. I really do. However, either I'm doing something wrong or Essie is the worst quality polish I have ever used. It goes on thin and streaky, brushstrokes are visible no matter what I do, and it chips off within 24 hours. I've tried Essie top coat, my normal top coat, and no top coat. The one-coat-black for example, sure it may be opaque in one coat but it looks painful to apply. Something like China Glaze Liquid Leather is a great black - nice consistency and opaque at two coats. And it wouldn't take a lifetime to dry! The HT top coats as well ... they look super thick and bubbly.

Wiping the bottle necks allows the bottles to seal properly thereby extending the life of your polish. I've never had any problem using acetone to clean the neck of a polish bottle. As long as you don't put it in the polish, you're fine. Apply with a qtip if you think some might get inside.
