I like the benelli but its noticeably heavier. It is also finished the best of the other two. Rounded edges, thicker barrel, fit and feel is the best as well. If I could only pick one, id keep the mossberg 835. But i am a duck hunter first, clay buster second, ranch work third.

Saw a post that said Remington 870 was akin to the Mossberg 500. The 870 is inexpensive, the 500 is cheap. There is a difference. My dad's been shooting competition level trap with an old, beat up, scratched up, rusty 870 for over 20 years. The Mossy's are good guns, have always been reliable, and didn't cost me a pile of money. The Benelli is a GREAT gun, and cost me about what I paid for both the Mossy's combined. Easier to clean than my pump (Mossberg 500)! Way less parts. Sure there are some good youtube videos to do it justice, but to me the best part is the bolt group clips into the action bar sleeve and everything slides into place (after you align the bolt slide connecting rod to the recoil spring guide). doctorlivingstone. I own both a SuperNova and an 870 Express. I converted the 870 to a defense gun, here's my take. The Remington kicks more, has a finish that's more prone to nicks, and to rust. The Benelli is more comfortable to aim, swing, and shoot. It's modular design is a breeze to dis-assemble and clean.It feels thick in your hands. The 870 (or even a 500) felt way more responsive to me. If you just want an entry level beginner pump shotgun - go with the 870. Jun 12, 2010 · Is there a Walmart near you? They usually have the Mossberg 500s for $227. I prefer the Nova over the 500 because it is virtually indestructable. $250 for a used Nova is a bit much. Have you tried haggling with the shop. $200 is more in the ballpark for the Nova, IMO. I have bought several 500s for $100-150 in really good shape.
