Is the moonveil katana still good.
It's one of those weapons that's a noob trap, imo. People get stuck on using the ranged attack as a crutch, while the actual katana moveset is extremely versatile and is, in tandem with the ranged attack, the key to being really skilled with it. In other words, it's a low skill floor, high skill ceiling weapon.

Moonveil remains one of the better weapons in the game too. It's basically better than using actual spells 4 times out of 5. People saying it's been "nerfed to hell" are exaggerating. High damage, high bleed, and its unique skill is a better version of Unsheathe that shoots projectiles stronger than most actual sorceries. Uchigatana with similar stats will do way more damage, and 1 shot kill with unsheathe. If you can roll through the laser, it's pretty punishable. It also costs a good bit to keep firing off in pve. Sword of night and flame is fucking silly shit though. That thing is really oppressive. Moonveil is fun, but fun but there are way better weapons ...
It's very good It gains damage from INT, so you can be a full spellcaster and still kick butt in melee It's a katana, so it's fast and easy to use It has a weapon art that slashes enemies from a distance, does lots of damage, and can interrupt foes Moonveil is awesome

Obviously in pvp it’s still alive and well. Maybe at the higher end it’s better in pve but so far at lower levels it’s underwhelming. I can’t even use it to level anymore. It doesn’t even stagger regular gate front knights. That was part of what made moonveil so good. Now it just feels like a regular katana with a blue ranged attack.

I use either meteorite staff which is OP or 2 rapiers and do way more damage way faster. Katana is pretty slow and doesn’t do as much damage. Honestly wasted 2 levels to get the 12 str. Katanas seem shitty to me so far tbh. They always need another random stat for all the “good” katanas so you gotta commit to a sword, not even a build. The posture damage is reduced (seems about the level of Unsheathe now, which is still very good) and the recovery on the R2 version of the weapon art is longer, but not punishingly so. Update: Comparing to Unsheathe, I don't really notice much or any difference in the recovery time, so the slower recovery thing might be a red herring.
