The truck is one year old. I just did the second oil change because I was going on a cross-country trip. While picking up my camper, I hear the infamous ticking noise. One year ago, I had the water pump replaced due to a service bulletin. I thought it was the water pump starting to fail again. I currently own a 2011 Duramax LML with around 500 miles. Since first taking delivery and continuing at 500 miles, I notice a howling noise whenever the engine is under load. It can be heard at almost any RPM, but seems most noticeable around 1200 to 2000 RPM. Almost sounds like blowing arcross to top of an empty bottle.Just traded my 2018 2500 Duramax for a new 2020 2500 L5P and notice a throbbing sound at idle when the engine is warmed up ( currently 2200km). Dealership says it is covered under the #16-NA-32 Bulletin on common engine noises Duramax 6.6L, but this is not the ticking or cycling that I have heard on my previous Duramax.

When at idle (in park or drive doesn't matter) there is a loud ticking noise coming from what sounds like drivers side rear of engine. It is only at idle as soon as throttle is given it goes away. Don't ask me how I know, had to have aluminum adapter plate, flywheel flex plate and torque convertor replaced because of torque convertor bolts coming loose ...

It only happens while the truck is running and it's coming from the engine clearly herd from the wheel wells. It sounds like a hot exhaust cooling down and the crack/pop/ticks you get.
