The bleach you’re buying off the shelf might be 6%. The 6% at my dollar general is $1.25 a gallon. The 8% is $2 and the 12% is $3 and change at walmart. I do know how to read lables. According to the math it's pennies different in favor of the bleach. If you are happy with your method more power to you.

When I try it on my pool that has a current chlorine level within the recommended range, I also get the warning when hitting the SLAM toggle. Seems it's complaining that the target SLAM level is above your 'normal' recommended 5–9 ppm level. If the SLAM toggle is on, I don't think it should complain about it. He started a slam and with a 70 cya set a 28ppm chlorine level and has been able to maintain that level with a lot of chlorine additions. For the past three days, the water has been very clear a 0cc’s. The slam has been going on for 4 days.

The numbers are for every 10FC, 16.5 salt comes along for the ride. So, roughly speaking, you've add somewhere between 550-600ppm salt already. There may have been a residual amount of salt in the pool back with the dragon fly nymphs as well.
