Now on the opposite side, if you had a tune for 91 and used 87, that would be very bad for the plugs, which is due to a lean condition. The timing is advanced for higher octane fuel. The aftermarket intake performance is offset by a tune being able to better utilize the airflow difference from the intake -- without a tune, the intake is a waste of money. The AMS intake is quiet--nearly as quiet as the stock intake boxes! The only time I hear my intake is under a hard pull when the engine is sucking in as much air as it can get.
