Unfortunately there is a difference between a Derelict Freighter as a random space encounter and a Derelict Freighter you find with a Emergency Broadcast Receiver. The random encounter version doesn't have any interior, so you can't land on it, but there are often 1-2 cargo pods you can destroy for some resources.
