Kawasaki vulcan 800 problems.

Speedometer stopped working. The speedo on out 1998 VN800a quit working on me. I took it off and tested it with a drill and everything forward of the rear wheel seems to be in good working order. I'm looking out at partzilla at the rear hub's diagram but can't make heads or tails of anything there.Bike Won't START, clicks won't turn over. I have a 99 vn800 that ran great when I parked it a month ago. Went to change oil and wanted to warm the motor up and it won't start. BOTH oil and cooling warning lights. 800 Vulcan '97 Problems. I've got a lot of little problems! small oil leak - I recently chanaged the oil and oil filter, but this doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. Someone told me that Vulcan's aren't really leakers and it might be a seal. I cleaned the carb really well, blew air through everything, and installed new jets, needle, float needle, and gaskets. When the bike is running and I just stab the throttle from an idle, the bike will die.

The 95 and 96 models had a higher 1st and 2nd gear ratio than all others I believe. This is why the 95-96 models have a 16/46 sprocket and chain set were all others have a 17/42 set.

IT seems that the orignal owner had cobra pipes put on the bike and he basically left only 1 inch of the baffle in there ( pulled it today and measured it ).The 900's are very durable and reliable.... Them being machines, they will, for freakish reasons, will sometimes have slight problems, but as a whole they are super dependable and fast.... Just keep on top of all the maintenance.....you should be fine. But stuff like the way the rear brakes connect, or the way the regulator (the thing under the radiator) is bolted to the frame. A few things here, a few things there.

The last would be to check the voltage on the regulator. Connect DC meter to Black/Yellow and White wires on the regulator connector. Idle should be 12v. At 6 - 8k rpm you should have 14-15volts. Anything else with a good read on the stator means the regulator is bad. 1995 VN800A.

Jul 21, 2020 · The starter run on could be caused by bad solenoid, starter switch/kill switch holding the connection, bad starter circuit relay in the junction box, or bad starter relay. A quick check is to remove the cable from the hub and spin with your fingers while looking for movement on the speedo needle. If it moves, your problem is in the hub.
