If you want to maximise xp/bar then you should do 14/14. 10:18 addy mith, you want to be at the maximum alloy quality within your alloys tier. 14:14 is a low quality tier 2 alloy but 10:18 is maximum quality tier 3 alloy. That means you have one less bar to complete on your preforms progress meter.

The wiki has a helpful breakdown on the Giant's Foundry page. Basically there's "mould" points and "metal" points, and the number of steps in a sword only depends on the "metal" points. The two points get added together at the end for your final score. At 90 "metal" points a sword becomes 6 steps long, and 14 Addy/14 Mith gives 95.
