I have not had this problem with my D. However, I have a 2013 Ram 3500 and this seems to be a common issue with the capless system. I have to push the nozzle in all the way and turn it 45 degrees to the right and it will fill up, otherwise it auto shuts off. I learned this little trick from the Cummins forum.
